1.4.1 Foundational Update (But Better!)

Did you think this project was dead? Did you think that last post about an indefinite hiatus meant the final mark on its gravestone?

IT'S GONNA TAKE A LOT MORE THAN THAT TO KILL ME!

Last semester had a LOT going on for me, which meant I had to put this project on hold for a long time. But, in that time, I learned a lot, and was able to work on small changes to this game, all leading up to this!

All the new content:

  • HTML version is back up, and better than ever!
  • The spiral and pendulum special events have been greatly improved visually, with more customization!
  • We have a title screen, along with a warning and credits!
  • Text engine has been redone (for like, the third time), with in-line bold,  italics, talk speed, and more!
  • LOTS of performance updates!

You might be wondering, what's up with the text engine? Wasn't that done in 1.4, and why are you just adding a .1 to this update instead of making it its own thing?

Long story, but you're reading the devlog, so here it is:

In the original way the game was programmed, the dialogue was super messily implemented, and it took days to just make a character be able to speak all their lines, plus playtesting to check for typos and go back into that mess and fix it. I first went to solve this by using an online tool I found, that seemed to be super automated and useful! But that meant I had to first deconstruct the way the text engine worked, and rebuild it from the ground up. It's not until after I did all of this that I realized the online tool I was using did not at all work with the HTML version, which is why that went offline for a really long time. I then had to strip all the working parts and reinvent the text engine from scratch AGAIN to make it work smoother on both the desktop and HTML version, but thankfully, that's done now! Future characters and additional dialogue for existing characters will be easier to implement (and to load on your device) than ever!

Also, as a result of that, I'm going to try and lay out another roadmap for this year! I aim to have one update or release at the end of every month, for the rest of this year. This may include new projects I'm working on, too! But as before, I'm going to be the only one keeping myself to this schedule-I don't have a stable enough timeframe to set up a patreon or anything like that, as useful as it would be for funding this project.

Thank you all so much for your donations and support, and look forward to more from me!

TL;DR: New update, no new characters, but some new content! More to come through the year!

The gemstone won't give me any points so I can't fill the "300 points with gemstone" part, It seems the same happens with the yoyo. I've played it a few times though and it's a great game so far! I can't wait for more to come out

seems to crash with kings trial of loyalty and only the first line of whispers dialogs appears
