VERSION 1.1 - KING COBRA UPDATE

VERSION 1.1: THE KING COBRA UPDATE!

Welcome back, subjects! I know I promised the full version today, but I've taken some steps back, and decided to take it slower on the development process. The game is still very much in the works, but I want to take the time to make every part of it as good as possible before moving onto the next, rather than getting it all done at once.

That said, I hope to have at least one "big" thing to show during each update, and for this time, it's a lot more to do with King Cobra! People had commented that he seemed to "come on strong," which they were right! He was added in at the foot of the demo to say "there's more planned for this, but I don't have that stuff to show ready yet." This update fleshes out his character a good amount, giving him more interactions and discussions! He's still an asshole, though. Thinks he's all that and a bag of chips.

There's also a dozen other changes in this update, which I will now go into.

Firstly, sound! Each character can "talk," there are alerts, and most importantly, binaural waves and a soundtrack! Right now, it's just one song, because I have more plans to do with the sound in the future, and I wanted to make original music rather than just grabbing stock stuff I could find online (A lot of the work done for this build was actually me writing a bunch of different songs, with the one in the game being the last and best).

There's also more customization options, and the way inductions start are different! I HIGHLY recommend replaying the tutorial where Jen goes over everything in-detail. Other changes include:

  • -Mouse hides after a few seconds of clicking
  • -Timing induction with Jen changed slightly
  • -Background auto-generates shapes when in a minigame or induction
  • -Dialogue back button
  • -Progress dialogue with spacebar as well as mouse
  • -Windowed version by pressing F4
  • -Minigames are toggleable, once they're unlocked
  • -Tutorial updated based on important changes
  • -Gem minigame made a bit smaller
  • -A dozen other boring bug fixes

NEXT UPDATE?

In short, another two weeks!

As before, I'm still a one-person team, and I've just started reaching out to others to start delegating work. I'm looking into art, guest writers, and most importantly, a web version soon! I just want to make sure everything is perfectly functional before including it in an update.

The next update will be in another two weeks, on Friday, June 19. That will (hopefully) include the web version for anyone who can't download and play .exe files, a brand-new character, and more conversations with our existing characters!

As always, please contact me with any questions, feedback, or ideas, and follow me @vinyl_dragon on twitter for more updates!

Glad to see you update! Happy to see this project keep rolling, onto the feedback XD

On a positive note, my King is still reaaaal fuckin hot. His new dialogue is all great, I'm totally fawning for him and totally want his junk in my throat asap. The time-dilation test now runs perfectly, no freezing in sight. If the removal of Dr Faustus herself was what caused this fix, I'm saddened but understanding, hopefully there's a way to resolve this while keeping the intent intact, because that really did just solidify my love for her control. The gem now feels a lot easier to sink with, I'm not sure if it's the reduced size, or that I had the shape borders on, but that gem truly has got stuck in my mind palace with the swirling blues and yellows =w=

Sadly I do have more criticism than positivity, but I'm sure that will change with time XP. The mouse disappearance is annoying as hell, straight up an ass. Trying to click the events now requires completely letting the rings fade to get the UI and the mouse back, then finding the mouse, then clicking the event. It's far less seamless and I'd rather this be a togglable option, (although if it already is, please excuse me not noticing).

The character voices I also found really distracting to be honest, the idea is sound, but in practice I think I just preferred them to be quiet, letting my subconscious fill out the voices I wanted to hear. Not to repeat myself but again, toggles would be nice.

Having to stop the spiral, go to the character list, open up the sub-menu, then open up the new induction without that much of an indication there is one was also a little distracting. I much preferred being all pliant and mushy and just continuing to sink and be taken advantage of in my docile state, without knowing it was coming. It makes sense to individually trigger it for the introduction to the character perhaps, and the ability to replay inductions is great, but again, yada yada, toggles.

Lastly, it was a bit of a disappointment to build up to my King's new content, only to be met with the same climax, I suppose I expected something as totally blissful and amazing and Faustus's, but I'm sure that may change in further updates.

Overall I'm still satisfied with the update, and I'm eagerly awaiting more, just still plenty of kinks to work through. Best of luck in future ^w^

You'll never catch me complaining about positive or negative feedback-I just want to make this project as good as possible!

I removed the big faustus portrait just as a little middle-ground, I'm currently working on other art that's going to replace it... But it makes me VERY happy to hear you wanting it back! I was worried it was too intrusive and boring to look at, but I'm happy to hear I'm wrong...

I fully agree about the automatic inductions starting. I switched it to this after some people commenting about accidentally skipping through dialogue, but I think there's a way to keep both systems in place while still solving those problems!

That absolutely makes sense about the mouse hiding, too. I originally had it in, then removed it, then decided to put it back in, but in all my tests I think I kept using the autoclick, so it probably doesn't function nearly as well without that. So I think it'll be removed!

And that is absolutely fair about the King Cobra "finale." Don't worry, I have more planned for each of the characters, so that won't be the end once the "complete" version rolls around. I wanted to have more of a build-up to the climax of the snake, which is what exists now, but your want for more is noted and appreciated!

Once again, thank you SO much for being a fan and for all the feedback! Every bit is read and appreciated!

Great to hear from you, this is all wonderful news ^w^

Hope all goes well with this, I have every confidence in you!

What an Exciting Update!

Had to head over and download it as soon as I saw it on Twitter. Definitely did not disappoint with all of the quality of life changes and ability to go back and read past messages again.

My only criticism is it seemed I couldn't read any new messages until completing all the tasks. That or I just missed the switch when completing the tasks. Before, the 'tist would pop up after each task, so I was expecting that to happen. Maybe a label of some kind for the switch from tasks to messages would be helpful.

Still very excited to see this project grow!

Thank you for staying a fan!!!
You should have been able to start new messages as soon as you saw an alert about them, but I also fully appreciate the feedback, and agree. I removed the automatic starting of the messages purposefully, but from the feedback I'm getting, I'll plan on adding it back in with some tweaks!

Thanks so much, again!
